Columbia Association Sister Cities Program

Interested in traveling to Cergy-Pontoise, France or Tres Cantos, Spain this summer? Students studying French or Spanish, level III or above, have the opportunity through Columbia Association’s (CA) Sister Cities program to spend two weeks in July with a French or Spanish host family, then host a French or Spanish teen for two weeks upon returning home from Europe. OR Make a difference and experience Haitian culture as a member of the Haiti Global Leadership Program in the village of Camp Coq, near Columbia’s sister city of Cap-Haitien from July 7-16, 2018. Participate in community leadership activities with Haitian students, work directly with Haitian youth on strategies for addressing alternative energy, waste management, preventive medicine, vocational training and business initiatives.

OutReach Update

Parents: Session 1 of Outreach ends this Thursday, January 9th. The start of OutReach Session 2 has been changed to Tuesday, Jan. 30th. This will be a 6-week session, ending March 3rd. Subjects Offered: English 9, English 10, Algebra 2, English Language Learners Tutoring The registration deadline for Session 2 is Friday, January 26th. If your child is already registered for Session 1, they do not need to re-register if interested in attending Session 2. (However, there is no Algebra 1 offered this session). The registration form can be accessed here:

The Kwanza Celebration

The Kwanza Celebration will be held at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Rd in Laurel, Md. This celebration demonstrates the passing of Cultural, community and family traditions from the Elders to the younger generations. This program is on December 26, at 7:00 PM.

PSAT/NMSQT PSAT 8/9 Scores and Reporting

On October 11, 2017, all 10th- and 11th-graders took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and all 9th-graders took the Preliminary SAT 8/9 test. If your student is in 10th or 11th grade his/her results will be distributed through his/her English class and will be coming home this week. The 9th grade results will be distributed once they are returned from the CollegeBoard, possibly after Winter Break.
