Are you a family receiving free or reduced meals? Please note that the expiration date is approaching soon! The deadline to turn in a new application or a renewal is October 12. NOTE: It takes the Food and Nutrition Office several days to process the applications. So, please, get your applications in as soon as you can! Need help with this? Dear Long Reach HS, My name is Megha Sharma and I am a junior at Long Reach and I am the Student Government Association President for this school year. As most of you know, the best week of the year is right around the corner: Homecoming Week! Long Reach students and staff have been working hard to make this year even bigger and better in order to celebrate the school’s 20th anniversary.

Interim Progress Reports going home today 10/6

Interim progress reports will be sent home with Long Reach High students, today October 6, 2016. They are a great opportunity for conversation between parents and children, and between families, teachers and school staff who work with your children. Please take time to read them with your child, look at grades on canvas and ask questions about progress, and support needed for classes.

Sports Report September 27 - October 4

LR JV and Varsity Volleyball beat Chesapeake on Tuesday!!! JV Boys Soccer beat Hammond 3-2 JV Girls Soccer and both Varsity Boys and Girls soccer couldn’t pull out wins against Hammond, but played great games! The Field Hockey team beat Meade on Tuesday! Great job!! Freshman Volleyball tied Wilde Lake 1-1 on Thursday, great job girls!! Huge shout out to our football program with 2 big wins against Centennial, JV winning 20-6 and Varsity winning 26-8. Come out and support our football team at River Hill this Friday!

ARL Newsletter October 4, 2016

Dear ARL Parents & Students, After continuing my visitations to several of the ARL Academies during the past two weeks, I wanted to share several amazing experiences in which our students were engaged. Students in one of the Allied Health Academy classes had an opportunity to watch a video and learn about Abby and Brittany Lee Hensel, conjoined-teenage twins, dealing with the realities of simply being a teenager in their high-school setting. The health/nursing students asked thought-provoking medical questions about the girls’ lives and their social interactions at school.

Are you ready for the PSAT on October 19?

As students prepare to navigate the pathways through high school, college and careers, the SAT Suite of Assessments will progressively measure the knowledge, skills, and understandings that are essential for college and career-readiness and student success. This suite includes the PSAT 8/9 to establish a baseline, the PSAT/NMSQT to assess student progress, and the SAT to connect to the college application process. The SAT Suite focuses on a deep understanding of the skills and knowledge shown by current research to matter most.

Canvas Parent App for Middle and High School Students

HCPSS is excited to share a new mobile app, Canvas Parent, designed to help parents/guardians monitor their children’s progress on the go. The app allows parents to check grades, review assignments and events, view course announcements, see a weekly calendar, and set student activity alerts, such as missing assignments or grades above or below a set threshold.
