Our Leadership Classes have teamed up with Grassroots in an effort to promote Mental Health Awareness here at Long Reach. Grassroots is a private, nonprofit organization that has worked with Long Reach before. It is a multi-service crisis center providing 24 hour crisis services, emergency and transitional shelter and community education. We want students to be aware of this FREE service locally in Howard County that can provide a service to help in improving their mental health.

The ninth-grade class (with the guidance of their English teachers) are raising money for Rohingya Muslim refugees living in Bangladesh who were forced to leave Burma due to genocide and ethnic cleansing. After reading Elie Wiesel's Holocaust memoir, Night, we felt compelled to do something to help prevent further suffering in the world. What We're Doing: Spirit of giving Week (June 3rd-7th) and Fun Run Event (June 8th, 10am-12pm)

Long Reach HS will hold its last Learners Permit Testing of the Year on May 15 directly after school. Please use the attached permission slip or pick up a hard copy in the front office. Seating will be limited to 50 students. Please turn in your signed permission slip no later than May 10 to Mrs. Jaksec, Pricpal's Secretary.

April 24 - April 26 the school counseling team conducted a lesson on post-secondary planning in English 11 classes to get students thinking about the steps they need to begin taking now and in the coming months to reach their goals for after high school. Here is the PowerPoint presentation as well as the College Application Check-list and the College Due Dates documents for students who are planning to apply to college.

Juniors - If you were scheduled for senior portraits on 5/28, your appointment has been rescheduled for 5/22. You will receive a new appointment card in the mail.

Ramadan begins on Sunday, May 5 and extends through June 4th. As Ramadan is a time when some Muslims fast from dawn to sunset as part of their observance, we understand that we may have students not partaking of food or water for nearly 16 hours each day. In an effort to be supportive to the needs of our students any student who requests/needs a quiet place during lunch should let any staff member know, and we will arrange for them to spend their lunch shift in the media center, student services or conference room.

LRHS will be completing state mandated and end of course testing on the following dates. Please be sure your student(s) get a good night sleep, have a hearty breakfast and arrive to school on time as testing will begin at 7:25 for the first day of each testing. The second day of your student's assigned testing will be in the afternoon. Your student's teacher in each subject area will share the specific schedule for their class. PARCC: (Algebra II- April 30th, May 1st, May 2nd)- 9th Grade only PARCC:(Algebra I- Spanish Paper- May 13-16th) HSA Government/MISA (May 20th-May 24th) PARCC: (English- 10 May 29th- May 31st) PARCC: (Algebra I- June 3rd, June 5th - June 7th) **Make ups will take place after the last day of each session.

College signing day is May 3, 2019 Friday during all lunches fourth period. For seniors.
