Celebrating Black History Month at Long Reach!

Dear LRHS Community, 

Below are our upcoming events in recognition of this important month:   

February 1st – 25th 

  • Morning announcements by students that include Black History Facts  
  • Door Competition for Classes - Decorate doors and/or bulletin boards to encourage African American culture with students   
  • African American music in the Atrium every Friday - Jazz, Ragtime, Soul, R&B, Blues, Hip Hop and more! 
  • BSAP Black Jeopardy  

February 8th and 4th Period on February 21st 

  • Salon (salon: a meeting of intellectuals) – Inspired by the salons of the Harlem Renaissance when the most creative thinkers of the day gathered to discuss topics relevant to the black community, our salons will feature discussions complemented with art & poetry.  

*February 8th – Poetry Reading and Art Display 

*February 21st – Conversation with W.E B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington 

February 9th  

  • 7:00 p.m. - March 2 Future: HBCU: The Benefits of Attending a HBCU

February 18th 

  • School Assemblies – Harlem Nights our Groove in School Performance sponsored by our BSAP​ and BSU.  
  • 7:00pm –  Annual Black History Fashion Extravaganza, "Our Nation Under a Groove," sponsored by our BSU and BSAP. Tickets will go on sale February 11th

February 19th 

  • Virtual Black History Expo – More details to follow 
  • A special link to the virtual Black History Expo will be forwarded to participants and to the general public
