Reminder: PSAT Day October 13, 2021

Information for grades 9-12




All 9th – 11th grade students will be participating in the administration of the PSAT on Wednesday, October 13th. 

  • All 9th grade students will participate in the PSAT 8/9 while 10th and 11th grade students will participate in the PSAT/NMSQT.  
  • All students have been pre-registered. 
  • Students should look at posted lists in the Atrium to find their testing location.
  • Please bring a scientific calculator to use for the test.

What Will Seniors do on PSAT Day?

Seniors are encouraged to choose one of the following activities:

  • Use the day to make other college visits with family or work on college applications and essays at home.  Families may use one of their discretionary leave days so students are excused for the day (please send a note in with your student on Oct 12th or email to
  • Seniors who do come to school on Oct 13th will go to the Media Center to work on college applications and essays with teacher support.

What are the advantages of PSAT participation and results:

  • The PSAT is helps students prepare for the SAT.  Students can become familiar with test format and test question types.  Also, student scores predict SAT performance and can help with choices about further student preparation.
  • The PSAT registration also allows qualifying participant to be entered into scholarship and recognition programs.
  • The PSAT is an introduction to the many of the requirements for college and career-readiness and planning.
  • Students will begin to receive information from colleges and universities as they explore their options.
  • Student performance will help to identify needed skill development and areas for improvement.

Students:  Please remember to get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast, and report to school on time.  Also, students should remember a calculator for use during the test!

On October 13th, your child will be completing a student data questionnaire that is part of the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) assessment. The questionnaire consists of basic information for reporting scores (name, student id, school, sex and birth date) and a set of optional personal questions. Information on the data collected and how it can be used by CollegeBoard is located in the following student guides:

Your child will be asked if they would like to share the personal questionnaire information with eligible colleges, universities, scholarships, and educational opportunity programs (Item 14 for PSAT 8/9 and Item 15 for PSAT/NMSQT). If you do not want your child to share the data or complete the questionnaire please:

  • Advise your child to leave all optional questions blank and select “No” for Item 14 on PSAT 8/9 or Item 15 on PSAT/NMSQT.-OR-
  • Email the school’s PSAT Coordinator Kevin Dorsey ( and indicate that you would like to opt your student out of the questionnaire data sharing.
