Are you thinking of college for your child? Let Leadership U help your current sophomore build the skills that will help them succeed! Leadership U can provide him or her a memorable week-long program of leadership development, networking, and community awareness. Beginning the end of July and continuing through the fall of their junior year with nine Sunday afternoon group meetings, LU will give your child the opportunity to build their network, strengthen their leadership skills, meet new students, and work on a community service project of their choice. Come learn more and speak to some of our grads at one of our final two information sessions: February 13 at Central Library or March 1 at Miller Library, both from 7-8pm. If you're interested in computer science, come to the fourth annual HoCo Hacks Hackathon! High school students from around the county will gain programming experience by spending the day coding a project that fits the theme presented at the event. The hackathon includes a presentation by guest speaker Dr. Singh, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University. Students may work in groups of up to three members, and food will be provided. The hackathon will be held at Centennial High School on April 14th, from 10am-5pm. Due to low attendance, the OutReach Program Coordinators have decided to cancel English 9 and English 10 for the remainder of session 2. If students need assistance in these courses, we encourage them to communicate and meet with their individual teachers. The NHS Change Matters Basketball Challenge is running through February 13th, culminating in a blackout for our girls basketball game against Howard! Please bring in your change or bills through the 13th to donate to an amazing cause- Grassroots Crisis Intervention. This non-profit needs our donations for its 24 hours crisis intervention, which includes a hotline and a walk-in counseling program for our community. This year's Black History Show Part 2 is " Our Voice". It centers around the African American's voice and perspective in the media, television, music, and fashion! Several local designers will spot light their fashions and of course David's Bridal and Men's Warehouse will blow us away with this year's prom fashions.
