Highlighted Message

From the Desk of the Principal

Dear LRHS Community,

Now more than ever, members of our community need support and assistance (food, clothing, rent assistance, etc.).  To help, a team of staff volunteers has launched the LRHS Cares initiative to meet this growing need.  Each week, we will continue to publish information about local community events on our main website. In addition, we will continue to distribute over 200 boxes of food containing 30.5 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy, and meat to our community every Saturday morning in October from 10am - 12pm at LRHS.  This has been made possible by a partnership between the Catholic Community of Ascension and St. Augustine, Lancaster Foods, and the USDA Farmers to Families Program.   I would like to thank our volunteers for their efforts and commitment to taking care of our community!  If you are aware of a community member in need, please pass the word along about LRHS Cares

This past Tuesday night, teachers facilitated a Family Information Night designed to provide information and ways to best support our students in our current virtual environment. If you were unable to attend, I highly recommend you check out the user-friendly information (including how to navigate canvas, extra schoolwork help available for students, etc.) on our main website.  Also, on Tuesday night, Community Book Club had their second meeting. Sponsored by the Long Reach High School Library and as part of our One Long Reach Initiative, participants are reading the popular Jason Reynolds' book, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You: A Remix of Ibran X. Kendi's Stamped From the Beginning.

Sincerely,

Joshua R. Wasilewski

Principal

Please take a few minutes to provide feedback about our school culture to LRHS Administration and our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee through a survey in partnership with the Restorative Justice Partnership, Howard County Education Association (HCEA), and the HCPSS Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Families can take the survey in English or Spanish.

The Howard County Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission encourages all eligible students to participate in its annual essay contest, poster contest and oratory contest. The Contest is open to all Howard County Middle School and High School Students. Cash prizes for winners!!! Visit https://tinyurl.com/y62zdevk for more information.

The Advanced Placement (AP) testing program for the 2020-2021 school year has been modified to allow for the maximum flexibility when registering for exams. Students and teachers are navigating the change to the 4x4 block schedule while dealing with the uncertainty of the health and safety for spring testing. The changes below will hopefully help students feel comfortable registering for exams and demonstrating their knowledge.
