Site-Based Dual Credit for Culinary POBM & TAP Students

Mon, 10/24/2016 - 3:35pm

As part of a thriving partnership between the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and Howard Community College (HCC), we are delighted to offer students enrolled in the following courses: Advanced Culinary Science, Principles of Business and Management (POBM), and/ or Teaching as a Profession (TAP) the opportunity to earn site-based dual credit from Howard Community College. Credits earned through HCC is transcripted college credit and is transferrable to colleges and universities not only in Maryland but also across the United States. As with AP credits, completing college level courses while in high school provides evidence of academic readiness critical to the college application process. However, unlike AP credits, students are not required to take and pass a separate exam in order to earn the credits.

Students who wish to exercise this option will need to complete the HCC Early Entrance Application, Early Entrance Signature Form, as well as an HCC registration form for the college course. HCC staff will provide students with all of these forms when they visit their class. Students will also be responsible for paying HCC tuition and fees. As a measure of our commitment to HCPSS students and our partnership, Howard Community College has reduced the cost of tuition to 40% of the normal cost.

We would like to invite all current Advanced Culinary Science, POBM, and TAP students and their parents/guardians to attend an information session. Some of the teachers as well as admissions staff from Howard Community College will be present at the session to answer questions and provide additional information.
