From the Desk of the President & Principal October 7

Fri, 10/07/2016 - 4:32pm

Dear Long Reach HS,
My name is Megha Sharma and I am a junior at Long Reach and I am the Student Government Association President for this school year. As most of you know, the best week of the year is right around the corner: Homecoming Week! Long Reach students and staff have been working hard to make this year even bigger and better in order to celebrate the school’s 20th anniversary. Every day from Monday, October 10th to Saturday, October 15th is filled with Long Reach spirit. To start the week off, all students should come in decked out with Maryland Pride for the first spirit day: Maryland Monday. Twin with your friends on Tuesday for Twin Day. There’s no school on Wednesday, but we are starting right back up on Thursday with Tacky Tourist Day. Show off your class and lightning pride on Color Day Friday. Freshman wear white, Sophomores wear silver, Juniors wear black, and Seniors wear purple! Students will be leaving class at the end of the day to be a part of the Pep Rally. We have a lot of exciting things planned for all the students and staff so come ready to cheer and celebrate! Students can sign up to be a part of the pep rally activities such as tug of war and a pie toss during lunch periods starting 10/10. Be sure to support the JV Football team as they play at 4:30 PM that evening.

Spirit week might be over by Saturday but Homecoming weekend is just getting started. The theme is Festival of Lights so expect a lot of bright colors and lights all over the school. Come out to the Long Reach parking lot at 9 AM on Saturday to see all the different floats for clubs and class councils at the Homecoming parade. Right afterwards at 10 AM, enjoy some pancakes at the Pancake Breakfast in the cafeteria. There will be a picnic for all the teachers and alumni at the softball field at 11:30 AM as well as an Open House. Be sure to check out all the lights and decorations made by school clubs in the hallways and the atrium. The big Varsity Football homecoming game against Glenelg is at 1 PM. SGA has a lot of light up goodies to hand out and we want everyone in the stands cheering for our amazing football players. We will also be collecting canned goods all week for local food banks and any old string light donations. Please drop off any canned goods or lights in room 214. You can even bring in 2 canned goods in exchange for a Homecoming game ticket! Last, but certainly not least, to close off the week we have the Homecoming Dance! Tickets are $15 and they will be sold during lunch periods starting Monday 10/10. There will be pizza, cake, a DJ, glow in the dark dance floor, a photo opp, and much more!

As you can see there is a whole lot in store for all the students, staff, and parents at Long Reach. Let’s make Long Reach’s 20th Homecoming week the best one yet!
                                                Sincerely,
Megha Sharma
