11th Grade Students
Reminders and Information for June

Here’s what’s happening for Juniors in June:

ALL Junior classes have now met with Student Services to discuss post-high school plans and the college application process. In this lesson, students received a planning folder they will use from now until Senior year. The folder contains important documents students will need to apply to college and planning materials!
Important Checklist items:

ALL 11th graders need to complete the first 4 tasks on the College Application Checklist (front of their blue folder) by the end of the school year (June 14th). These forms are all found on Naviance and can be completed anywhere with internet access.

Counselor Information Form ~ Naviance
Teacher Information Forms (2) ~ Naviance
Parent/Guardian Information Form ~ Naviance (Parent completes this)
Add your list of colleges to Colleges I Am Thinking About list ~ Naviance

The PINK packet inside the folder contains paper forms that students will need at the beginning of Senior Year! The last white page in that packet lists helpful websites that students can explore now for college and career searches, test prep options, scholarships, and financial aid.
Juniors who plan to apply to 4-year colleges in the fall also need to complete task #8 by June 14th on the College Application Checklist- Invite teachers to complete the letter of recommendation in Naviance. Students will need to have a face-to-face conversation with 2 teachers to confirm that teacher can write a letter for them. Once that occurs, students will invite the teacher via Naviance (task #8).  ***Student should NOT invite teachers on Naviance without first speaking to them in person***!!!!

*Overall, students did a great job identifying the potential post-secondary pathway they were headed toward (college, military, work, gap year, etc). If you feel like your child still does not have a clear idea which direction they would like to head, please spend some time with them this summer researching and exploring options. The websites listed in the packet on the last page are a great place to start.
*Students who are college-bound should have a COMPREHENSIVE list of schools they are interested in applying to. Task #4 asks students to add these schools into Naviance. We expect that students will be completing college visits this summer and can further develop and solidify their college list prior to returning this fall!
Use the summer wisely and effectively!

Review and adjust the college list through research and campus visits (comprehensive list should include reach schools, target schools, and safe schools)
Call colleges to schedule tours and Interviews
Consider starting a general college essay- students can look at the current essay prompts on the Common Application.

*As Seniors, students and parents will meet with their counselor individually for a Senior Conference to discuss their pathway, review their college list, answer questions and make sure all deadlines are met. Since students will be returning to school later this fall, some students may meet with their counselor for their Senior Conference over the summer. Please keep connected for further information and dates for this!

**Please view the Junior Planning powerpoint on our website, which was presented to students. Note any questions you might have after viewing it, and connect with your student to make sure you are all on the same page. This presentation contains A LOT of information, but it is meant to help support your student through summer and into the beginning of senior year. We will review all of this information again at the beginning of senior year and talk about the remaining tasks on the College Planning Folder.

Thank you for your support as your child heads into this important, transitional time in their life.
